MY BACKGROUND includes an Industrial Design Degree, designing global health products for developing nations, designing educational toys, game design and my true passion — UX Design.
I SEEK PROJECTS that leverage my creativity, problem solving skills and ability to thrive and lead in ambiguous situations. Daniel Kahneman the famed Nobel Prize winning psychologist once said, “Education is knowing what to do when you don't know.” My design career has presented me with a wealth of instances where I was tasked to come up with a solution, process, product or work-around and there was no precedent for how the problem should be addressed. My design philosophy holds that it is most important to serve the user’s core needs and not to introduce bias into the situation. I always strive to deliver an excellent experience to the user while also creating beauty, balance and simplicity wherever I can.
I think to be a well-rounded designer you have to be a well-rounded person and I am constantly trying to better myself. One of the ways in which I try to improve is understanding different perspectives.
I broaden my horizons by traveling. I've lived in huts in India, ridden horseback in Mongolia and attended tea ceremonies in Japan. Empathy is another key feature in being a designer. To increase my empathy I work with YearUp Seattle to offer my services and to mentor young professionals.
The bulk of a designer's edge comes from keeping the mind active, informed and sharp. I draw from a diverse number of resources to accomplish this which include books, blogs, talks, podcasts and websites. My design tool kit consists of Sketch, Illustrator, Adobe XD, Rhino, Photoshop, InDesign, KeyShot, After Effects, 3D printing and Adobe Muse.
Design is what I love and when I’m not being creative I’m with family and friends. A great day for me is a lazy Saturday: reading, going to brunch or working on one of my many side projects.
